Matthew Perry spotted for the first time in months – and everyone’s saying the same thing

Matthew Perry’s appearance caused renewed concern amongst fans after the actor reemerged in public a month ago.

The Friends star took part in a large-scale tour to promote his new memoir late last year, but subsequently dropped off the radar.

Given that the 53-year-old has had a long-running battle with drugs and alcohol, this in itself was enough to alarm some fans, with their fears hardly allayed by his disheveled, unkempt look.

As per Spanish newspaper Marca, Perry was snapped by paparazzi appearing bloated and red-faced. Page Six, meanwhile, claimed that the actor looked exhausted as he stepped outside his Hidden Hills home in Los Angeles to make a trip to Starbucks.

The Massachusetts-born entertainer was dressed in a gray Henley shirt and jeans and sported a scruffy beard as he was captured on camera for the first time in many weeks.

Perry made headlines the world over after the release of his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, in November, 2022, mainly due to the candid nature of his writing and certain controversial opinions he expressed within the book’s pages.

Among other things, Perry, who shot to fame through playing Chandler Bing on Friends, recounted his colon bursting due to opioid overuse. His family were told at the time that he had just a two-percent chance of surviving, and he spent two weeks in a coma and five months in hospital while he recovered.

In October, Perry told People: “I’m pretty healthy now. I’ve got to not go to the gym much more, because I don’t want to only be able to play superheroes. But no, I’m a pretty healthy guy right now.”

He added: “It’s important, but if you lose your sobriety, it doesn’t mean you lose all that time and education. Your sober date changes, but that’s all that changes. You know everything you knew before, as long as you were able to fight your way back without dying, you learn a lot.”

Perry also came under fire for comments made about Keanu Reeves in his memoir. The Friends actor wrote: “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

While later discussing the death of Saturday Night Live star Chris Farley, Perry wrote: “I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us.”

Perry later received backlash for his comments and was forced to formally apologize. The actor stated that he was “actually a big fan of Keanu” and “just chose a random name” to use as a punchline. “My mistake,” he continued. “I apologise. I should have used my own name instead.”

Moving forward, we can only wish Perry well as he continues to grapple with his demons. As per Page Six, he will remain on Suboxone – a drug used to treat opioid withdrawal – for the rest of his life, though it greatly affects his ability to experience joy.

I for one don’t think it’s important how a person looks, so long as they are comfortable and healthy. I truly hope Matthew Perry is getting all the help he needs to continue on his road to recovery.
