Jane Fonda, 85, confirms the sad news about her future

Iconic actress Jane Fonda has revealed that she will be taking a lengthy hiatus from the entertainment industry to better focus on the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

According to Yahoo, the 85-year-old is determined to lend whatever support she can muster in a bid to ensure the candidate who ends up in the White House is one who’s serious about climate change.

Fonda attended the Tribeca Film Festival this past Saturday (June 10) to receive an award for her political activism. While on stage, the actress took part in a 30-minute interview where she outlined her political views in no uncertain terms.

“Let’s get rid of the Joe Manchin’s,” Fonda said.

“We need to try to light a fire under Biden and look, we have to vote for him, ok? We have got to get really mad at him and we have to try to demand that he earn our votes. But I mean, let’s be real because the alternative is the end of everything.”

When pressed on the prospect of potentially ever running for office herself, the Grace and Frankie star dismissed the idea, describing herself as more of a “cheerleader”.

“One thing about getting old is that you start to get a little smart about what your strong suits are. And that’s not one of them. I’m a cheerleader.

“I don’t have any original ideas. I’m the one who takes your ideas and then I get credit for it.”

Fonda then drove home the importance of tackling climate change before it’s “too late” for the next generation.

The 85-year-old said: “We are animals, let us not forget. We depend on the ocean and the forests for oxygen, for food. I mean, even dogs don’t s*** in their own kennel. And we’re in our kennel and taking a lot down with us in the process. We have to stop it. It’s all connected.

“Those of us who are alive right now in this decade, it’s up to us (to make a change) because when we go it’ll be too late. We’re the ones who can make the difference. Let’s not, when history is written, be the ones that were staying at home and rearranging the china.”

Fonda has used her voice in the past to support women’s rights, and was a staunch campaigner in opposition to the Vietnam War.

Earlier this year in April, the 80 for Brady star spoke candidly on the health issues she has faced during the recent past, insisting that she is “not scared” to die.

In September of last year, Fonda announced that she had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, she said: “I’m not going to be around for much longer.”

The Academy Award-winner later said she feels death is an adventure, and so she’s “not scared of dying”.

“I kind of, you know… I don’t want to go – I still have a lot to do,” Fonda said during an appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.

“What I’m really scared of is getting to the end of life with a lot of regrets when there’s no time to do anything about it.”

I think Jane Fonda is a remarkable woman, and certainly an inspiration for fans around the world.
