Gerald Castillo, from “General Hospital” and “Saved by the Bell”, dies aged 90 – rest in peace

Gerald Castillo, best known for his roles on General Hospital and Saved by the Bell, has died aged 90, according to reports.

Dayna Quinn-Castillo, the late actor’s wife, confirmed her husband had passed away at his home in Houston, Texas on May 4.

Appearing on television shows such as CSI: Crime Scene InvestigationM*A*S*HDallas, and The Jeffersons, Castillo was perhaps most notable for his guest roles on General Hospital and Saved by the Bell.

The actor’s wife, Dayna, said in a statement:

“Many of the actors he worked with remember him as a charismatic and insightful director who would jingle the change in his pocket while he pondered a scene, then leap onto the stage to work out the blocking or whisper in an actor’s ear.

“He was revered for providing the support and guidance that allowed actors to fully develop their characters on stage.”

As per reports, Castillo landed his first on-screen role on The Jeffersons, having been encouraged by Sherman Hemsley, who also featured on the show, after the two had worked together in a stage production.

His first big supporting role came as Mario Lopez’s on-screen father in Saved by the Bell between 1992 and 1994. He then earned further acclaimed as Judge Davis Wagner on the popular General Hospital from 1992 to 1994.

According to People, Castillo also appeared in a number of roles on the big screen, including Through Naked EyesDeath Wish 4: The CrackdownState of Emergency and Above Suspicion.

The 90-year-old is said to have worked as a stage director for productions across Los Angeles and Ventura prior to his retirement in 2012.
