Idaho father teaches his son’s bullies a harsh lesson after they label him a “monster”

Jackson Bezzant is a cheerful elementary school child who enjoys fishing, playing outdoors, and spending time with his family. However, Jackson has a rare condition known as Treacher Collins syndrome, which sets him apart from other kids his age. This condition impacts the development of bones and facial tissues.

As a result of Treacher Collins syndrome, Jackson experiences near-deafness and has undergone surgery to reconstruct his eye socket. Unfortunately, he faces constant bullying at school, not only from other children but also from some adults. Despite these challenges, Jackson continues to be a happy and active child.

Jackson’s father, who lives in Idaho, was heartbroken upon discovering that his son was being called a “monster” at school. Determined to put an end to the bullying, he decided to take action and teach the bullies a lesson.

Dan, Jackson’s dad, has witnessed the bullying on numerous occasions. He recalls an incident when a woman passing by commented on his son’s appearance. Although it is difficult for any parent to witness their child being bullied, Dan has mostly maintained his composure, focusing on keeping Jackson happy and grounded.

While Jackson Bezzant was having breakfast in the school cafeteria, three older boys came up to him and began teasing him. They called him “ugly” and a “monster,” leaving Jackson feeling helpless. Thankfully, a teacher’s aide noticed the situation and intervened to put an end to the bullying.

Upon hearing about the incident, Jackson’s father, Dan, was brought to tears. However, this was not the end of the story, as further challenges lay ahead.

Although Jackson had experienced bullying before, his father Dan resolved to put an end to it. Frustrated by the constant teasing and humiliation his son faced, Dan decided to take a stand against the bullies.

To address the issue, Dan turned to Facebook and wrote a heartfelt post, calling out those who tormented his son. His aim was to send a clear message that the bullying needed to stop.

Dan wrote:

“My heart is in pieces right now and my soul feels like its ripping from my chest,” Dan began, according to People Magazine.

”This beautiful young man, my son Jackson, has to endure a constant barrage of derogatory comments and ignorance like I’ve never witnessed. He is called ugly and freak and monster on a daily basis by his peers at school. He talks about suicide and he’s not quite 8!

He says he has no friends and everyone hates him. Kids throw rocks at him and push him shouting these horrific words. Please please take a minute and imagine if this were your child. Take a minute to educate your children about special needs. Talk to them about compassion and love for our fellow man.

His condition is called Treacher Collins. Maybe even look it up. He’s endured horrific surgery and has several more in the coming years”, Dan Wrote.

Dan does not hold the school or teachers responsible for the bullying Jackson endured; rather, he believes the fault lies with parents who have not instilled values of kindness, compassion, and acceptance in their children.

His intention is for parents to read his Facebook post and empathize with the heartache he feels. Dan urges parents to educate their children about the harmful effects of bullying and to emphasize that it is never acceptable. As he states, “Please share this. This shouldn’t be happening to anyone.”

Jackson’s appearance, due to Treacher Collins syndrome, frequently attracted unwanted attention. This rare condition affects bone and facial tissue development, resulting in visible deformities. Unfortunately, Jackson will need to undergo numerous procedures throughout his life.

However, after Dan’s heartfelt post, children from Jackson’s school reached out to him and his family, offering friendship and support. Remarkably, Dan’s message also connected Jackson with two children living nearby who also have Treacher Collins syndrome. They are now planning a playdate, fostering connections and understanding among those affected by the condition.

Touched by the outpouring of support, Dan created a PO box for people to send Jackson letters or cards, which rapidly filled up. It is truly heartbreaking to read Dan’s emotional Facebook post and learn about the torment Jackson has faced due to bullying. No one should have to endure such treatment.

Many instances of bullying may be unintentional, as children sometimes make comments based on their observations without understanding the underlying situation or the impact their words can have. Nevertheless, as Dan demonstrated, raising awareness and educating others can help prevent and address the issue of bullying.
