Jimmy Buffett hospitalized, says medical issues need ‘immediate attention’

Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett abruptly postponed one of his upcoming concerts after he was hospitalized for “some issues that needed immediate attention.”

The “Margaritaville” singer, 76, announced earlier today that a concert scheduled for Saturday, May 20 in Charleston, South Carolina would be postponed.

“I had a sudden change in plans this week that affected us all,” Buffett wrote in a message to his fans, explaining that after returning from a trip to the Bahamas he stopped in Boston for a check-up, but “would up back in the hospital.”

Buffett did not disclose his medical trouble but described it as “some issues that needed immediate attention.”

The announcement has generated some worry among Buffett’s many devoted fans, but the singer reassured his followers that he would be back on his feet soon, and would reschedule the Charleston show for another date.

“Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you. I also will promise you, that when I am well enough to perform, that is what I’ll be doing in the land of She-Crab soup.”

This is the second time in recent months Buffett has had to postpone his concerts due to his health: in September 2022 he canceled shows “due to health issues and a brief hospitalization,” saying that he was on “doctors orders” to “recuperate and heal.”

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band is one of the most popular touring acts in music. Their shows are known for their festive, energetic atmosphere and have a devoted following of fans known as “Parrotheads,” who often show up in tropical attire, enjoy some margaritas and sing along to the classic hits.

The concert postponements will no doubt come as a disappointment to many excited fans, but Jimmy’s health has to come first. In response to the announcement, many fans shared their well-wishes.

The “Cheeseburger in Paradise” singer thanked them for their continued support.

“You all make my life more meaningful and fulfilled than I would have ever imagined as a toe headed little boy sitting on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico,” Buffett wrote. “Thank you for your prayers and thoughts, your amazing years of loyalty, and just remember, ‘NOT YET!’”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the iconic Jimmy Buffett — hoping he makes a full recovery and gets back to performing soon ❤️💔
