Danny Bonaduce confirms he’s having brain surgery after serious health scare

Danny Bonaduce has confirmed that he’s set to undergo brain surgery in the wake of a health complication that has left him unable to walk and severely affected his balance.

The actor and television and radio personality, who rose to fame as a child actor in the 1970s on The Partridge Family, was reportedly diagnosed with hydrocephalus in March, having sought answers from hundreds of doctors as he battled a mystery illness.

According to reports, it was his partner, Amy, who first realized something was wrong with her husband, back in April 2022.

“She looked really nervous, and she [said], ‘You’re not saying words, you’re not speaking English,” Danny recalled.

Danny was promptly rushed to hospital, though his symptoms left doctors perplexed.

“I couldn’t walk at all. I couldn’t balance, I couldn’t do anything like that,” Danny explained.

“I just immediately said ‘stroke.’ I’d seen my dad had a stroke, it was the same thing. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t keep my balance, I slurred really badly, I couldn’t remember anything.”

But that wasn’t the case, according to the doctors. Medical experts ruled it out, after looking at an X-ray. Despite copious testing and a long hospital stay, doctors never got any answers.

That was until March this year. According to TMZ, Danny was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a neurological disorder caused by a buildup of liquid in the brain.

The actor himself has apparently confirmed that he will undergo surgery next week in a bid to alleviate his troubling symptoms. The 63-year-old has said his procedure aims to drain the liquid from his brain via a shunt.

If nothing else, it’s good news that Danny finally appears to have been given the answers he was seeking for so long. After meeting with doctors last year, he took a step back from his radio show to try and get to the bottom of his health issues.

Standing with the help of a cane, he told fans at the time: “I’m taking a temporary medical leave from my radio show. I’ll share more when I know more. I’m still working towards receiving a diagnosis. What I know is, I need time to focus on my health. I love my job and talking to you guys & I’ll be back on the air soon.”

In May 2022, Danny’s sister then updated his fans on the situation:

“We are not being coy when we say this is a ‘mystery illness’… in layman’s terms, his balance sucks — super sucks — and all the great medical minds of Seattle are at work trying to solve this conundrum,” Celia Bonaduce wrote. “We will keep you posted.”

We wish Danny Bonaduce all the very best of luck with his forthcoming surgery!
