NCIS 2021: Fans baffled by ‘plot hole’ in Torres and Bishop season 18 capture scene

‘Ellick’ fans were delighted when lovable agents Ellie Bishop (played by Emily Wickersham) and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) shared some quality time in NCIS season 18. Unfortunately, fans of the CBS crime drama soon realised their impromptu bonding session could have been prevented with one simple fix.

NCIS fans have exposed an egregious plot hole in the sixth episode of the show’s 18th season, ‘1mm’.

Airing back in January, millions of viewers tuned in with the promise of agents Bishop and Torres finally getting some alone time together.

In this episode, their shootout at the home of a former sheriff leads to their accidental capture in the historic site’s ancient jail cell.

With hours to kill behind the tightly sealed bars, many viewers were hoping the time had finally come for Bishop and Torres to address their feelings for one another.

Sadly, their constantly teased relationship still hasn’t come to fruition as season 18 approaches the release of its 11th episode at the start of April.

To add insult to injury, one fan took issue with the entire premise of their imprisonment, and deconstructed the episode in a recent Reddit thread.

They explained: “So, in this episode, Torres and Bishop are way out of cell tower range and unable to reach Gibbs.

“I kept asking the TV why they didn’t use the ‘share my location’ feature on the iPhone? Apple must be a sponsor with so much product placement.”

As well as slamming the series’ infamous in-episode sponsorship deals, this viewer raised a very good point regarding the agents’ lacklustre escape attempts.

After trying and failing to reach Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) on their mobile phones, Bishop and Torres are forced to wait for hours before the team leader eventually tracks down their location.

However, some fans were left baffled when two resourceful and tech-savvy agents failed to come up with another solution to their predicament.

The viewer went on: “Anyway, if YOU want to use this feature, go into your contacts, find your contact then scroll down their address page.”

“You will see “Share My Location.” This might have worked when a call couldn’t go through!”

Their post maintained that Apple’s sharing function may have still worked despite their location’s poor cell phone service.

Plus, other commenters reasoned the agents should have been able to reach 911 in the case of an emergency despite failing to get through to their colleagues.

However, another argued: “Might have worked. But without any cell towers there it might not… No reception usually means no internet access either.”

While a second fan added: “Emergency calls still need reception. They just use all providers, not just yours.”

The episode in question may have provided some convenient excuses, this fan was right to point out NCIS’s particularly flimsy excuse to finally get the fan favourite couple some time alone.

Thankfully, most fans were more concerned with Bishop and Torres’ exhilarating yet fleeting moment of intimacy.

Season 18 is currently taking a short break, but it’s hoped the agents can finally start developing their will-they-won’t-they romance when the series returns next month.

NCIS season 18 continues Tuesday, April 6 on CBS.
