NCIS season 18: Fans thrilled by Bishop and Torres romance tease in explosive double bill

The 18th season of CBS’s exciting drama finally returned after its lengthy midseason break. NCIS fans were treated to two cases tonight, which wrapped up with some surprising revelations and a passionate reunion between Nick Torres (played by Wilmer Valderrama) and Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham).

This week’s return of NCIS has drawn thrilled reactions from the show’s legion of fans, who tuned in for two brand new episodes.

Episode four, ‘Sunburn’, revived the show’s 18th season by turning the clocks back to Leroy Gibbs’ (Mark Harmon) search for his missing pal, Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano).

Immediately afterwards, ‘Head of the Snake’ jumped ahead by three months to see Fornell alive and well and once again working to track down Merriweather (Nick Boraine), his daughter’s drug dealer.

The investigation culminated with a tense rendezvous at the airfield seen in season 18’s jaw-dropping opening teaser, in which Gibbs appeared to shoot his teammate, Tim McGee (Sean Murray).

Viewers were finally given an explanation for Gibbs’ apparent betrayal, as it transpired the team leader was forced to shoot McGee to protect him when he realised a plane was rigged to explode.

On Twitter, one viewer reacted: “So it’s going to be a fallout from that with Gibbs and McGee. Gonna be some emotional scenes coming, I get the feeling.”

NCIS took fans through a range of extreme emotions this week, as they started to fear Special Agent Ellie Bishop was on board when the explosives went off.

Luckily, the intrepid agent made it out alive, and shared some tearful reunions with her colleagues Gibbs and Torres.

The pairing of Bishop and Torres has been a firm fan favourite since their introduction in the series, and their tender moment this week has some viewers even more convinced romance could be on the cards.

Following the back-to-back instalment, fans flocked to Twitter to give their reviews on the latest episodes, and speculate what’s in store for the pair next week.

One excited fan said: “The way Ellie just fell into Nick’s arms. It’s like that’s exactly where she belongs!! I love them so much!!”

Plus, another noted: “Can we just talk about how Fornell told Torres to go get his girl?”

Episode five was originally intended as the finale to last year’s 17th season, which was cut short amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

Now season 18 is officially getting underway next week, we could finally see the beginning of Bishop and Torres’ long-awaited romantic arc.

So far, the potential couple haven’t admitted their blatant attraction for one another, though they did share a dance as different characters in season 17’s wacky flashback episode, Ephemera.

A hug may be all the series has to offer for some time, but it’s certainly enough to keep fans tuning in to see if anything further comes from their emotional reunion.

Plus, their desperate situation in next week’s episode, ‘1mm’, could finally force the pair to confront their feelings for one another.

The agent’s next case will kick off with a botched shoot-out which leaves them trapped in an abandoned jail cell.

With potentially hours to kill before the rest of the team finds them, this could be the perfect opportunity for one of them to pluck up the courage and admit their feelings.
