NCIS season 18 return date: Why isn’t NCIS on this week?

NCIS season 18 usually airs on Tuesdays on CBS. But, why is the series not on this week?
NCIS has been off-air since early December as fans eagerly await the return of the crime procedural. The show will not be airing this week in its usual time slot of Tuesday evenings either. Here is everything you need to know about why it isn’t on and when it will be returning.
Why isn’t NCIS on this week?

NCIS Los Angeles and NCIS New Orleans are back on CBS but there is still no sign of the original series.

This has left viewers wondering why exactly the crime drama is not airing this week.

Viewers last watched a new episode of NCIS season back on December 12.

Since then, the show has been on its festive break, which it takes every year.

However, this year has been slightly longer than its spin-off shows.

There is no clear reason for this but it could be to do with there being fewer episodes this year.

Instead of the usual 24, there will be only 16 episodes due to filming restrictions in place for coronavirus Covid-19.

As a result, the CBS hit might be hoping to space out its new episodes a bit more.

However, fans do not have too long to wait before it returns to the channel.

The series will be airing a double bill on Tuesday, January 19 with episodes six and seven.

These are entitled Sunburn and Head of the Snake and will see the NCIS team back to solve new crimes.

The details for both episodes have already been teased by CBS ahead of airing.

DON’T MISS…

Episode six will feature Timothy McGee (played by Sean Murray) and his wife Delilah McGee (Margo Harshman) once again.

While holidaying in the Bahamas, their trip soon turns into a criminal investigation as someone is found dead.

The synopsis reads: “Bahamian vacation turns into a high-stakes mission when a case NCIS is tracking of a dead escape room manager has ties to the island.

“Also, Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) fears the worst when his search for Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) leads to blood.”

Episode seven continues the storyline of Gibbs and Fornell attempting to track down the opioid dealers.

The synopsis reads: “Gibbs’ and Fornell’s crusade to find the head of the drug ring responsible for Fornell’s daughter Emily’s overdose comes to a climax.

“Also, Gibbs and Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) finally let the team in on a case that has dangerous implications.”

After these air, it is expected the show will go back to airing weekly on Tuesday evenings.
