NCIS season 18 spoilers: Fornell attack.s Gibbs in action-packed first-look trailer

Despite the complications presented by the coronavirus pandemic, NCIS will be back on CBS later this month with its highly-anticipated 18th season. And while a few first-look snaps confirmed the return of Tobias Fornell (played by Joe Spano) and a gut-wrenching storyline for Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), fans had been without a trailer for the series until Wednesday. The trailer certainly provides the shocks and spills of what’s to come and one particular scene to catch the eye involves Fornell and his old pal Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

In the trailer for the upcoming series, shared to the show’s official Instagram account, the Gibbs and Fornell plot is just one of several which dominate the clip.

“If we do this, we do it the right way,” Gibbs tells Fornell at the beginning of the promo.

“Alright,” Fornell tells him, to which Gibbs smirks and responds: “Saddle up.”

Shortly after, the next we see of the pair is Fornell pushing Gibbs away – clearly, the two disagree over something.

Gibbs is then seen sprinting through the woods with his gun drawn but the drama for him doesn’t stop there in the trailer.

“All hell’s gonna break loose,” Fornell tells Gibbs, this time with the two sat in the front of his car.

However, seconds later in the trailer is the most unexpected and shocking moment.

Fans get a split-second glimpse at Gibbs trying to restrain Fornell, only for his buddy to swing an elbow and clock him in the head.

But what are the two veterans fighting about? And what will these attacks and confrontations mean for their friendship?

It’s a moment a number of eagle-eyed fans picked up, with one commenting in response: “Wait was that fornell punching gibss?”

While others were more concerned with Fornell’s new look, as a second said: “Fornell’s ponytail has me bothered but also can’t wait!!!! Yayayayay thank you cbs!!:D.” (Sic)

“Tobias’ ponytail is making me question life rn,” added a third, while a fourth replied: “Can’t wait to see gibbs and fornell back together.”

Elsewhere in the trailer, fans get a glimpse at Jack Sloane (Maria Bello), whose exit will be coming at some point in season 18.

Before she leaves, however, it looks like she’ll be joining Gibbs, Torres, and Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) on one final case.

“Let’s find a killer,” Gibbs says to his team, prompting Torres to say he’s in, followed by Bishop who says: “Me, too.”

“Me, three,” says Sloane as she pops up in the trailer – but could this hunt for a killer lead to her exit?

NCIS season 18 premieres on CBS on Tuesday, November 17.
