From cheeky Princess Charlotte sticking her tongue out at crowds to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement announcement in Kensington Palace, the past few years in particular have been full of life-changing and lovely moments for the Royals.

But at the start of this decade, life was quite different…

2011

At the start of 2011, Prince William was about to start life as a married man – but that didn’t mean he wasn’t too busy to show his grandparents the helicopter he was flying while he worked as a Search and Rescue pilot.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry was preparing to walk to the North Pole in March whereas Prince Charles happily got behind the wheel of an old steam engine two months later.

But without a shadow of a doubt, 2011 was a year defined by Royal Weddings – with Prince William and Kate Middleton tying the knot at Westminster Abbey in May, followed by Mike and Zara Tindall exchanging vows in Edinburgh in July.

2012

In 2012, The Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee and – we’re not even exaggerating when we say this – the Royal Family went into overdrive.

In March, Prince Harry travelled to the West Indies in honour of the Diamond Jubilee – and raced against Usain Bolt.

Back in the UK, The Queen celebrated her 60th anniversary as the monarch with a very rainy pageant down the river Thames followed by star-studded celebrations at Buckingham Palace.

2012 was also the year Prince William and Kate Middleton confirmed they were expecting their first baby after the Duchess was hospitalised for severe morning sickness.

2013

On 23 July 2013, Kate Middleton and Prince William introduced their son Prince George to the world on the steps of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital.

Three months later, we were treated to another adorable glimpse of Prince George when he was christened at St James’s Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

In June, The Queen presented the Duke of Edinburgh with New Zealand’s highest honour, the Order of New Zealand, to recognise his work as a member of the Royal Family.

2014 was a year of firsts for the younger members of the Royal Family.

In April, the young Cambridge family embarked on their first tour of New Zealand and Australia.

In 2015, Prince George became an older brother for the first time.

Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed Princess Charlotte into the world on 2 May 2015.

Two months later, the little Princess was photographed again at her christening at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham where her grandmother Princess Diana was also christened.

2016

Every year, the Royal Family gather on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to mark The Queen’s official birthday – an in 2016, they certainly didn’t disappoint.

This was the first time we’d seen all four members of the Cambridge family together in an official capacity – and Prince George couldn’t hide his excitement over the the military flypast overhead.

In October, the family travelled to Canada following the success of Kate and William’s India tour.

2017 was a year of enormous change for The Royal Family – Prince Philip retired from public life, Prince George started school for the first time and Prince Harry his romance with Meghan Markle public.

The two were pictured for the first time in September 2017 at the Invictus Games before they announced their engagement two months later.

2018

2018 was another big year for the Royal Family – with TWO royal weddings, one royal baby and the news that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were expecting.

But just when royal wedding hysteria was hitting fever pitch, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank also announced their engagement in January.

In April, Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their third child Prince Louis into the world and Harry and Meghan tied the knot the following month in a fairytale Windsor wedding.

2019

Rounding off the decade, 2019 saw the arrival of baby Archie and Princess Charlotte’s first day of school.

Continuing to work all throughout her pregnancy, Meghan Markle delighted royal fans when she arrivied at the National Theatre in London in January cradling her growing baby bump.

Proving she’s a woman after our own hearts, the Duchess of Cambridge pulled an impressive pint in February 2019 when she visited Belfast Empire Hall with Prince William.

On 6 May 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle delighted fans when they announced baby Archie’s arrival – and the proud dad joked he’d “had about two hours sleep” in the immediate aftermath.

Two days later, they introduced him to the world for the first time at Windsor Castle before taking Archie to South Africa on a royal tour as a family.
